• Aug 2: Haynie’s Corner Arts District – First Saturdays Art Walk. 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., join a walking tour of Evansville’s Downtown Arts District and the numerous studios and galleries therein. Maps can be picked up at Penny Lane Coffeehouse.
• Aug 2: Penny Lane Coffeehouse – First Saturdays Art Market. From 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., check out original artwork at an evening art market.
• Aug 5-Sept. 1: Henderson County Public Library – Made to be Played. Exhibits works by Kentucky’s master builders of guitars, fiddles, banjos, mandolins, dulcimers and other stringed instruments.
• Aug 7: Patchwork Central – Artist Trading Card Class. Create pint-sized art cards to trade or keep. Two-hour class. Starts at 6:30 p.m. $10 registration.
• Aug 9-Sept. 21: New Harmony Gallery– Art and Soul Exhibition. With artist reception on Aug. 23rd.
• Aug 10-October 26: Evansville Museum – Fuzzy Physics. Interactive exhibit sparks the imaginations of youths and adults alike through the creations of engineer-turned-artist Richard Sonntag.
• Aug 20-Sept 10: Hoosier Art Salon’s New Harmony Gallery –Salon Artists Exhibit. An exhibit of works by Salon artists.
• Aug 21: Willard Library – Alaska Travelogue. Andre Trewick gives an exciting account of his Alaskan adventures. Starts at 7 p.m.
• Aug 23: Hoosier Art Salon’s New Harmony Gallery –Exhibit Opening & Gallery Stroll. An exhibit of works by Salon artists.
• Aug 23-Dec 7: Evansville Museum – Seeing the Invisible Universe. A scientific documentary exploring some of the mysteries of the Universe, the program will show each Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children ages 3-12.
• Aug 23-Oct 1: Audubon State Park Museum (Henderson) – Audubon’s River. Exhibit of artwork depicting J.J. Audubon’s time spent along the Ohio River.
• Aug 27: Willard Library – Jaycee, Kuku, and Kay the Elephant: The Early Years of Mesker Park Zoo. Library archivist Patricia Sides discusses the first decade of Mesker Park Zoo (1929-1939). Starts at 6 p.m.
• Aug 29: Bosse Field –People’s Choice Art in the Ballpark Exhibition. Attendees of the game will vote on their favorite piece of artwork and winners will be announced and prizes awarded during the 7th Inning Stretch. Artists should visit www.artswin.evansville.net to enter.
• Aug 29: Hoosier Art Salon’s Broad Ripple Gallery – Not So Plein Jane Exhibit. Exhibit of Plein Air artists Mary Ann Davis, Corrine Hull, Jeanne McLeish, and Donna Shortt.
• Aug 30-Sept 22: Angel Mounds – Our Cultural Heritage. Tri-State Art Guild show off their Native American-inspired artwork.
• Continuing thru Aug 15: Bower-Suhrheinrich Foundation Gallery – Senior Series. Themed artwork by USI and U of E seniors.
• Continuing thru Aug 17: Evansville Museum – Rodin: In his Own Words. Over 30 official casts from the master sculptor from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation, with quotations from the artist.
• Continuing thru Aug 17: Audubon State Park Museum (Henderson) – Tri-State Art Guild Exhibit. Tri-state landmarks immortalized in a variety of mediums.
• Continuing thru Aug 17: Hoosier Art Salon’s New Harmony Gallery – Cagle, Fang & Seward. An exhibit of works by these artists.
• Continuing thru Aug 22: Angel Mounds – 3D Exhibit. The Tri-State Art Guild exhibits 3-D works from some of the tri-state's best artists.
• Continuing thru Aug 23: Hoosier Art Salon’s Broad Ripple Gallery – Salon de` Refuse. An exhibit of works not accepted into the 84th Annual Exhibition.
• Continuing thru Sept 14: Bower-Suhrheinrich Foundation Gallery – 15th Annual Juried Exhibition: Working Together. Sponsored by Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. and the Evansville Museum.
• Continuing thru Sept 28: Evansville Museum – POWs of WWII. Tells the story of POWs during WWII through the experiences and memorabilia of people like Charles Huppert of Evansville, a planner of “The Great Escape.”
MUSIC & FESTIVALS
• Aug 2: Angel Mounds – 4th Annual Bluegrass and Barbecue Festival. The best local bluegrass bands and all the barbecue you can eat. Admission is FREE.
• Aug 8-9: Audubon Mill Park (Henderson) – 23rd Annual Bluegrass in the Park Folklife Festival. Eight different bluegrass artists take the stage for a 2-day festival. Admission is FREE.
• Aug 10: Riverfront Beach Near Evansville –SkiDay on the Ohio. Summer party with music, drinks, bikini contests, and Playboy Playmate AJ Alexander emceeing.
• Aug 14-16: Germania Mäennerchor (916 N. Fulton Ave.) –Volksfest. Join tri-state’s oldest German singing club for traditional German-style festivities w/ music, dance, contests, food and stout brew. 10 a.m. thru midnight, all three days.
