It's time to hear from Henderson native and Morganfield resident... Get your K's up Kentucky!!!

It’s 16 bars ya’ll...
It’s Boop D…

N4U: Where did your name come from?
BoopD : The name Boop D is actually an acronym that best describes my parents. My dad has a powerful personality and my mom is very dignified. So the name Boop D stands for Brought Out Of Power and Dignity.

Are you originally from Morganfield?
I was born in Henderson and raised in Morganfield.

How difficult is it to come from a small town and get your name out?

Man a lot of club owners and promoters where afraid to take chance on me in the beginning. I started rapping in '99 and between '99 and '04 I performed seven times; five of the shows I put on with my own money. My name and where I'm from have been the two biggest setbacks for me! I get the Mike Jones response, "Boop Who? Morgan Where?" (laughs) The last few years have been a blessing!

How did you get started as an MC?
My pops is a local legend in Morganfield. He was the first person from here ever to put out CD! He released a single called "I Been Missing You" in 2000 that he actually sat on for 2 years! During that time he invested money into keyboards and other equipment. I started producing, but I had nobody to rhyme to my beats. So instead of Boop D the producer, I became Boop D the rapper!

Do you remember your first song?
The first song I ever recorded was called "Rock the Club" at my homie Big E's house in Morganfield!

Would you bump it now?
No! That song swallowed me! (laughs)

How would you describe your style?
In an industry of cookie cutter artist, I'm definitely one of a kind! I go off of passion and emotion! Many artists inspire me, but I don't aspire to be nobody but me!

Who are some of your influences, musically, over the years?
LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Biggie, Tupac, Run DMC, Joe Budden, David Banner, Master P, Pastor Troy, The Lox, Busta Rhymes, Twista, Xzibit, Kanye West, Do or Die, Crooked I, Ludacris, Jay-Z, Eminem, I could go on and on!

Do you have a dream collab?
Yes! A song with me, Jay-Z, Xzibit, and Eminem!

You have a big show coming up on July 5. Tell us about it.

Yeah it’s called the Unity Fest! Last year was the first and it was beyond expectations! A lot of people came out showed support and all in all it was great night! This year the plan is to go bigger! More acts, good performances, and something to bring a little life to the town.

Do you have any other projects you’re working with right now?

I released an album called Chessmoves this past October available at Joe's Records. I plan to drop a mixtape shortly, and I'm currently working on my new album entitled "I am Boop D" set to drop in March.

Freestyle, booth or stage and why?

The booth because its therapy for me. When I'm having a bad day, I lock myself in the studio. It helps me to deal with certain problems I'm facing.

Tomorrow you wake up, and you’ve gone to the place of your dreams. Where are you?
Hopefully where I went to sleep at! (laughs) Naw, for real – a nice home in a place where my kids can grow up.
