Landshark Lager
(Margaritaville Brewing Co., Jacksonville, FL)

For those who like familiarity and fruit:  it tastes like a slightly watered-down Corona.  Not much else to say really.  Next…

Another dime a dozen beach beer made to be served with a lime. It passes over the pallet and almost completely vanishes like a lucid dream. I guess it does its job but this style of beer is becoming a novelty. Almost every national brewer has one and this one is smooth and refreshing to a point but it doesn’t stand out from its peers.

Yellow with a typical lager scent and a fizzy, thinnish mouth feel. Very light, sweet taste with almost no detectible hops. I’m not particularly a fan of this style of beer, but Landshark gets 3 stars for accomplishing its goal of being a worthy competitor to Corona.

To me this beer is just like a Corona but better. The look is similar but I don’t feel I have to stick a lime in it to drink it. You could but it isn’t mandatory. I enjoyed the light lager taste and it is a good summer beer. The beer just has more character than a Corona. My neighbor Jason can’t get enough of this stuff.

Mendocino Summer Seasonal White Ale
(Mendocino Brewing Co., - locations in CA & NY)

Liar, liar pants on flamin’ fire! The label says a “subtle hint of coriander and a delicate twist of lemon.”  I’ve feel as if I’ve had coriander shoved in my nose and I’ve been thrashed with a lemon peel. Damn it! Why do they ruin a potentially good beer with a small sampling of the local farmer’s market?

The scent of this brew is wrought with wheat and the orange and spices are very prominent in the first taste. For such a sharp taste the consistency is smooth and the wheat in the aftertaste is subtle but noticeable. The orange zest isn’t overdone; it perfectly balances out the wheat flavor. While this might not be my top choice on a balmy July afternoon it is a great beer.

Cloudy, unfiltered wheat beer with a powerful citrus and coriander aroma and taste. The spices overpower the beer flavor, but if you’re a fan of beers that come with a fruit garnish, you’ll probably like this one.

I love Belgian Ales and this was a good one.  It had a good head and had a cloudy yellow appearance. The flavor citrus and spice, a little more that other Belgians I have tried but I like the beer anyway. The beer was also a little tart but quit refreshing. It was good for something different.

“The black beer with the blonde soul…” I don’t know what that’s trying to say about society as a whole, but what I do know is that for a thick, rich lager, it’s not that bad. It’s not my particular favorite, but it’s OK. Good  thing it didn’t have fruit it in – I would go on strike.

Not much of a scent from this one but the taste is something all its own. The taste of this beer would repel most people but its consistency and subtle aftertaste balance it out. The first swig comes off very nutty but then fades as it is swallowed. There are few beers this dark that walks the thin line between smooth and satisfying. This is one of those beers.

As the name implies, this pours black. Both the smell and taste have a nice, lightly roasted maltiness. Not as “big” as many black lagers, but the flavor is good and not too overpowering for the casual beer drinker, perhaps because it fades away so quickly. There’s a reason these guys have been making beer since 1543.

This beer is pretty dark and had a great chocolate head. It looked like a Guinness and that it about the only thing they had in common. It had a slight chocolate smell. The flavor was light and crisp chocolate and coffee flavor with a clean finish. This is a great dark beer that doesn’t have the overpowering tastes of other dark beers. This beer was very easy to drink.

Michelob Beach Bum Blonde Ale
(Anheuser-Busch, St. Louis, MO)

This is the summer time beer for those who enjoy light beer, but require more taste than a “standard domestic light.” Light, crisp in taste with a hit of hops in the back part of the flavor.  My only complaint is that since there is a touch of hops, I feel like I’m missing something from the body.

Nick – 4
Leave it to Michelob to do a beach beer right. It has a sweet, subtle wheat taste and it settles lightly in back of the throat. It isn’t the best aftertaste but not overwhelming by any means. There could be just a bit more hops but the consistency is perfect to please on a sunny, hot day.

Golden color with a very light, almost non-existent aroma. Taste is also almost non-existent, but might be described a light and crisp. Beach Bum is drinkable – not exciting, but not offensive. It is a summer beer that should have broad appeal.

This beer poured a clear gold color with the head fading fast. It had a crisp hop smell. It had a light malt taste with a little sour hop flavor. It had good carbonation with a lingering aftertaste that was somewhat spicy. Also was surprised by the brewer, Michelob/Anheuser-Busch. Not bad at all
